BSF Apprehends Smuggler, Seizes Mobile Phones and Phensedyl Bottles on Indo-Bangladesh Border

The vigilant troops of the 70 Battalion under the South Bengal Frontier have intercepted and seized significant amounts of smuggled goods in their area of responsibility, being smuggled from India to Bangladesh. On 16 Feb’ 2023, the troops recovered 124 bottles of Phensedyl and 21 mobile phones worth Rs.4,67,458/- approx. The seized goods have been handed over to the Customs Office in Malda.

In another incident, on the same day at about 1345 hrs, the BSF troops of the Border Outpost Arshikari of 112 Battalion observed a suspicious Maruti van coming towards border village Arshikari. Upon stopping and searching the van, the troops recovered 139 bottles of Phensedyl worth Rs.28,539/- approx from the van. Thereafter, the BSF jawans apprehended the van driver. The apprehended smuggler, along with the seized items, has been handed over to the Police Station Swaroop Nagar for further legal action.

Additionally, jawans of the Border Outpost Angrail, 158 Battalion, also recovered 150 bottles of Phensedyl worth about Rs. 30,796/-.

The Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier stated that the Border Security Force is taking strict measures to stop all sorts of smuggling on the India-Bangladesh border. He emphasized that the BSF is fully committed to stopping smuggling from its area of responsibility and is taking strict action against smugglers in collaboration with other agencies working in the area.

These successful interceptions and apprehensions by the BSF demonstrate the force’s commitment to protecting the border and maintaining peace in the region.
