BSF APPREHENDS SMUGGLER TRAFFICKING FISH EGGS ACROSS INDO-BANGLADESH BORDER

On March 21, 2023, vigilant jawans of Border Out Post Ranghat, 68 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier, acted on concrete information and apprehended a smuggler, Sukanto Dalpati (25) from District North 24 Parganas, with 23 plastic bags filled with fish eggs worth 3,45,000/- rupees in the market.

In fact, while the jawans on duty were observing through their night vision device , they noticed a group of 10 to 12 smugglers carrying large sacks moving towards the international border. Meanwhile, another group of smugglers from Bangladesh were also approaching the Indian border.The jawans immediately challenged the smugglers, who left the sacks and ran away in the darkness. The jawans caught one smuggler at the spot and recovered the bags of fish eggs.

During the interrogation, the smuggler revealed that today these items were given to them by Sottu Bala from his own village. Furthermore, these goods were to be handed over to unknown Bangladeshi smugglers after crossing the border. However, BSF jawans nabbed him on the way, and his accomplice smugglers fled.

The commanding officer of the 68 Battalion stated that the troops of the Border Security Force always carry out their duties on the international border promptly. He further stated that BSF jawans will not allow any smuggling to occur across the border under any circumstances.
