Border Security Force (BSF) jawans of Border Outpost Shikarpur, 86 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier, in a joint operation with the police, apprehended a smuggler with 197 Phensedyl bottles while trying to cross the India-Bangladesh border. The incident occurred on April 20, 2023, following intelligence inputs from BSF’s intelligence department.
The troops of Border Outpost Shikarpur received information that a smuggler was trying to transport a huge consignment of Phensedyl bottles from India to Bangladesh. The jawans also informed the Marutia police station, and a joint operation was launched by the BSF and the police. At around 2025 hours, the jawans cordoned off the area and searched an e-rickshaw driver who was seen approaching the location. The troops recovered 197 bottles of Phensedyl from the smuggler, identified as Sukesh Mandal from District Nadia.
In another incident, troops of border outpost Raninagar, also belonging to the 86 Battalion, apprehended a smuggler with 150 bottles of Phensedyl. Acting on accurate information from BSF’s intelligence wing, the troops were able to nab the smuggler. The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Shahjahan Sheikh, District Nadia.During interrogation, it was revealed that the smuggler mainly worked as a carrier, collecting Phensedyl bottles from notorious smugglers and handing them over to petty smugglers in the border village New Shikarpur. The smugglers then work to cross these bottles into Bangladesh by crossing the BSF’s domination line. A total of 347 Phensedyl bottles with an estimated value of Rs.71,242/- were seized in both the incidents.
The apprehended smugglers were handed over to the concerned agencies along with the seized goods.
The Commanding Officer of 86 Battalion expressed satisfaction over the alertness of the BSF jawans and stated that they are fully determined and committed to stopping cross-border crimes and smuggling. The BSF remains vigilant and is always ready to take prompt action against any such illegal activities in the border areas.
