ASSAM RIFLES DISTRIBUTED SOLAR STREET LIGHTS UNDER ASSAM RIFLES CIVIC ACTION PROGRAMME

In the remote Chakama Village, Kamjong District of Manipur, the pressing need for basic amenities and infrastructure development was keenly felt by the local community. Recognizing the importance of addressing these essential requirements, Assam Rifles took proactive steps to distribute Solar Street Lights as part of its Civic Action Program.
This initiative was met with gratitude and optimism by the locals, who saw it as a beacon of hope amidst the challenges posed by the recent internal security turmoil in Manipur. Approximately 80 residents of Chakama Village, along with various civil dignitaries, gathered to witness this significant event.

During the ceremony, Assam Rifles handed over 10x Solar Street Lights to the village authorities, symbolizing a tangible step towards improving the quality of life in Chakama Village. The presence of Reverend J Robin from Somrei Church, Ningthar Shanglai, Secretary of Chakama Village, and Ms. Ester Shimray, a Women Empowerment Activist, added to the solemnity of the occasion.

In addition to the distribution of solar lights, the village council organized prayers and cultural programs to mark the significance of the event. As the ceremony concluded, the village secretary expressed heartfelt gratitude to Assam Rifles for this noble gesture, acknowledging the positive impact it would have on the community’s well-being.

ASSAM RIFLES ORGANISES DISTRIBUTION OF SPORTS ITEM UNDER ASSAM RIFLES CIVIC ACTION PROGRAMME

In the remote village of Mulam in Ukhrul, Manipur, there existed a need for sports items to promote physical activity and community engagement. Recognizing this requirement, Assam Rifles, under the aegis of IGAR (South), organized the distribution of sports items as part of the Assam Rifles Civic Action Program on 21st February 2024.

This initiative is part of Assam Rifles’ ongoing efforts to connect with the local populace and engage in welfare activities aimed at enhancing community relations. The sports items, including volleyball, football, football shoes, football gloves, badminton rackets, shuttlecocks, and other indoor sports equipment, were provided to the village.

The village chief and members of the Youth Club expressed heartfelt gratitude to Assam Rifles for their support. This gesture is expected to strengthen the bond between the local community and Assam Rifles, fostering goodwill and mutual respect.

ASSAM RIFLES ORGANISED A JOINT SECURITY MEET CUM INTERACTION PROGRAMME AT SONGDO VILLAGE, CHURACHANDPUR DISTRICT 

Due to the prevailing security challenges in Manipur, residents of remote villages in the state have been facing significant concerns regarding access to education, sports, and the safety and security of their communities.

In response to these pressing issues, a Joint Security Meet cum interaction programme was organized at Songdo village in Churachandpur District on 21 February 2024. This key event brought together village authorities, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) from 15 remote villages, and Company commanders from Assam Rifles, Army, BSF, and CRPF.

During the programme, Assam Rifles emphasized the importance of addressing security challenges and fostering cooperation with security forces. They commended the public’s support in their efforts to maintain peace and stability, redirecting youth towards education, sports, and societal development, and promoting resilience amidst the tense security situation in Manipur.

In recent days, the Company Commanders in the Area have worked closely with village authorities, Village Councils (VCs), and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to promote peace and cooperation with security forces in the Area of Responsibility (AOR). Furthermore, steps are being taken to ensure the efficient operation of Gothol School, and plans are underway for an inter-village football tournament scheduled for 26th February. This initiative aims to redirect the focus of youth away from violence towards participating in sports activities, thereby nurturing a culture of peace and unity within the communities.

ASSAM RIFLES FELICITATED VETERAN OF WORLD WAR-II SUBEDAR AS NINGLAM TANGKHUL OF ASSAM RIFLE

In a poignant ceremony, Assam Rifles honored Subedar (Retd) AS Ninglam Thangkhul, a revered 98-year-old veteran whose military history is nothing short of remarkable. Subedar Thangkhul, an integral part of 4 Assam Rifles since his enlistment during World War II, played a pivotal role in thwarting the advance of Japanese troops in 1942, forcing their retreat towards Kohima. His unwavering dedication and courageous efforts during this critical juncture have left an indelible mark on the legacy of 4 Assam Rifles.

In the late 60s, Subedar Thangkhul continued his service with active participation in Counter-Insurgency Operations (CI Ops) in Nagaland, showcasing exemplary leadership and bravery in maintaining peace and security in the region. Retiring from 4 Assam Rifles on 1st February 1972, Subedar AS Ninglam Thangkhul leaves behind a legacy of service, sacrifice, and resilience. The felicitation ceremony held in his honor serves as a testament to the enduring spirit of dedication within the armed forces.

ASSAM RIFLES NATIONAL INTEGRATION TOUR INTERACTED WITH LIEUTENANT GENERAL GEN GURMIT SINGH, GOVERNOR OF UTTARAKHAND AT DEHRADUN

The Assam Rifles National Integration Tour, a hallmark initiative fostering unity and solidarity, exemplified the commitment to promoting national integration through enriching interactions and insightful visits at Dehradun.

The tour organised at part of Operation Sadbhavna commenced with a captivating campus tour of the prestigious Forest Research Institute (FRI), where the participants delved into the realm of ecological conservation and sustainable practices. This experience underscored the tour’s dedication to environmental awareness and the preservation of natural resources.

This was followed by visit to an Artillery unit, where they were granted invaluable insights into the might of Indian Army. The highlight of the tour was the esteemed interaction with Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh,

Governor of Uttarakhand at RajBhawan, Dehradun. This distinguished interaction facilitated candid discussions, fostering a spirit of unity and progressive spirit amongst the participants.

The Assam Rifles National Integration Tour continues to serve as a beacon of unity, transcending boundaries and fostering camaraderie among diverse communities. Through such endeavors, the Assam Rifles reaffirms its unwavering commitment to promoting national integration and solidarity.

*ASSAM RIFLES PROVISIONS OFFICE EQUIPMENT FOR EX SERVICEMEN ASSOCIATION IN MANIPUR*

Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) provisioned Office Equipment for the Ex Servicemen Association, Ukhrul district on 21 February 2024.

The Ex Servicemen Association, Ukhrul district was raised in the year 1976 and comprises of 516 members. With the growing members in the association, improvement in infrastructure and administrative requirements for operation of their office was highlighted to the Assam Rifles. An aid of chairs & admirah was extended for smooth functioning of the association.

The gesture underscores continued support to the local populace and the efforts towards augmenting their vision.
