Barrackpore figures very prominently in the history of freedom movement of India where Mangal Pandey thundered against the tyranny of British rulers in 1857 which finds place in Indian history as Sepoy Mutiny.
The oldest Army Cantonment, Barrackpore is also established here in the northern fringe of Kolkata.
A Three Day Distaster Management Excercise(CBRN) was conducted at Barrackpore,WB along with NDRF,Civil Administration, WB Police, Fire and Emergency Department, Water Department and Municipal Corporation under the aegis of Eastern Command by Brahmastra Corps.
The excercise was aimed at enhanced civil military cooperation with joint practice of mobilisation, deployment drills,Medical and ancillary facilities during aid to civil authorities as also demonstration of best practises. All participating entities showcased fervour and learnt mutually to strengthen a joint response to any calamity.
