BSF, South Bengal Frontier foiled the efforts of smugglers and seized 596 fake Indian currency notes of ₹500 denomination worth ₹2.98 lakh on Indo-Bangladesh border

vigilant troops of Border Outpost Sowapur of 115th Battalion, BSF under South Bengal Frontier foiled the efforts of smugglers on the international border of Malda district of West Bengal and seized 596 fake Indian currency notes of ₹500 denomination, having face value of Rs 2,98,000/-. Acting on specific information, the jawans of Border Outpost Sowapur seized fake Indian currency notes worth Rs 2,98,000/-. When the smugglers were trying to smuggle these fake Indian currency from Bangladesh to India.

According to the information, on August 28, the jawans of 115 Battalion, Border Outpost Sowapur had increased vigilance based on the information given by the intelligence department. Then at around 1210 pm, BSF jawans saw 02 suspicious persons coming on a motorcycle, the jawan on duty saw their suspicious activity and signaled them to stop. Seeing this, the smugglers tried to escape by leaving the motorcycle, but the BSF jawans caught them and searched them, during which 06 bundles of fake notes were found from them, which contained 596 notes of 500 rupees.

The smugglers caught were identified as Razak Sheikh (18 years) and Ranjit Sheikh (20 years) name changed village Kakodia, Murshidabad. During interrogation, they told that they met a person near Devnapur village, whose name was Haider Ali father-Lieutenant Asin Sheikh, who is a resident of Devnapur village. Haider Ali handed over a plastic cover containing 06 small bundles of fake notes to them. Both the smugglers were to hand over these bundles to an unknown person near village Dhuliyan, PS Shamshergan. They would have received Rs. 100 for handing over this consignment but BSF jawans nabbed both of them before that.

The seized material has been handed over to Police Station- Vaishnavnagar District- Malda for further legal action.

Expressing happiness over this success, Public Relations Officer of BSF South Bengal Frontier Shri A.K. Arya said that this is only an example of vigilance displayed by his jawans deployed on duty. He urged people not to resort to smuggling under any circumstances. He said in strong words that his jawans will not allow smuggling or any other type of crime to take place on the border under any circumstances and will not spare the persons involved in it.
