BJP heading for landslide victory in Haryana

The Haryana Assembly Election results indicate a dramatic comeback for the BJP, which is set to secure a third consecutive term. As of the latest updates, the BJP leads in approximately 50 seats, while Congress trails with around 35 seats.

This outcome defies earlier exit poll predictions favoring Congress, which anticipated a significant victory after a decade in opposition.

Notable wins include Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini , BJP candidate Anil Vij, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and newcomer from wrestling to politics Vinesh Phogat. The JJP and other regional parties have struggled to gain traction in this election.

Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini says “I want to thank the people of Ladwa and the 2.80 crore population of Haryana. The credit for this victory goes to PM Modi.

What factors contributed to the BJP’s surprise victory in Haryana:

Leadership Change: The appointment of Nayab Singh Saini as Chief Minister just months before the election revitalized the party’s image and resonated particularly with non-Jat communities, consolidating their support.

Counter-Polarization: While the Jat community was expected to rally behind Congress, there was significant counter-polarization towards the BJP, especially among Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and upper castes.

Strategic Decisions: The BJP’s decision to contest independently after breaking ties with the JJP allowed it to consolidate its voter base without sharing support with allied parties.

Effective Campaigning: The party’s campaign highlighted local issues and governance achievements, countering Congress’s reliance on Jat votes and appealing to rural voters dissatisfied with local governance.

What reasons Congress tragedy failed in Haryana Assembly Election 2024:

Overreliance on Leadership: Congress depended heavily on former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, which limited its appeal beyond traditional voter bases, particularly among non-Jat communities.

Internal Divisions: Infighting within the party, particularly between Hooda and Kumari Selja, weakened its campaign effectiveness.
