Manipur political activist Leichombam Erendro walked out of jail after Supreme Court orders release him by 5 PM today.
He was released at 4.45 pm before 15 minutes of Supreme Court deadlines.
A bench of Justice D Y Chandrachud and M R Shah also said he cannot be kept in jail even for a night.
Erendro, along with Manipuri journalist Kishorechandra Wangkhem, was charged with the stringent NSA in May 13 2021 on his Facebook over state BJP chief S Tikendra Singh’s death due to Covid.
He had written “The cure for Corona is not cow dung and cow urine. The cure is science and common sense. Professor ji RIP.”
Speaking after his release, Mr Erendro accused the government of trying to “silence everyone with the “National Security Act” and declared “but that is not going to work”.
