On 12th December, 2022 at 1000 hrs, alert troops of ICP Petrapole, 145 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier, apprehended a truck driver with 04 gold biscuits which was coming to India from Bangladesh. The weight of the seized gold is 466.59 grams, the estimated value is 25,06,054/- rupees. The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Saiful Mandal, District North 24 Parganas.
During interrogation, the smuggler revealed that this gold was given to him by Bangladeshi smuggler Haider, resident of Benapole. Today, when he was returning to India from Bangladesh, he hid these biscuits in the cabin of the truck. During checking at ICP Petrapole, BSF troops seized 04 gold biscuits and apprehended him. He further revealed that he was going to handover these biscuit to an unknown person in Jayanti Bazar. He was going to get 2,000 rupees for this work.
The apprehended smuggler along with the seized goods were handed over to the Customs Department Petrapole for further legal action.
Commanding officer of 145 Battalion stated that BSF is constantly trying to stop smuggling on the Border and it has also got success in this work. Due to which people involved in crimes like smuggling are being apprehended continuously. More information related to smuggling is being obtained from the apprehended smuggler so that more people indulged in smuggling can be traced.
