Today on 6th March, 2024, Ravi Gandhi, ADG took over the charge of Additional Director General at Headquarter, Special Director General, Eastern Command, BSF at Kolkata. This post was vacant upon the repatriation of Sonali Mishra IPS, ADG to her parental cadre MP Police on completion of deputation period of seven years in BSF since 28th Feb, 2024. Eastern Command-Kolkata of BSF is responsible for border guarding of Indo-Bangladesh border which is most sensitive and happening command of the BSF covering the five states such as WB, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram. In addition, BSF troops are also deployed in the state of Manipur for maintaining the peace in the existing turmoil which are supervised from this HQ only.
Ravi Gandhi is a 1986 batch BSF Officer, with over 37 years of unblemished and committed service to the Nation. He was promoted to the rank of Additional Director General on 01st Oct’ 2023. He has held various prestigious assignments in the staff, training and operations in the BSF. He has discharged his duties in the field areas in the India’s Eastern as well as in the Western borders of the Border Security Force. He is known for his professional acumen, unwavering commitment and dedication in the service of the mother land. He has held very prestigious assignments in the BSF in the instructional, operational and staff role. He has also worked with the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Bosnia from 1996 to 1997.
Ravi Gandhi is one of the most decorated officers of the BSF. During his career, he has been decorated with many awards in recognition of his dedication, hard commitment and diligence which included PPMG (President Police Medal for Gallantry), PPMDS (President Police Medal for Distinguish Service), PMMS( Police Medal for Meritorious Service), Ati Utkrisht Seva Padak and numerous Director General’s Commendation Rolls for his relentless efforts and contributions to the Force which speaks volumes about his ability, contribution and professional approach towards his duties.
In the span of 37 years of dedicated service in BSF, wherever Shri Ravi Gandhi, ADG had served, has left an indelible impact because of his hard work, dedication, and a desire to grow and contributed towards the Nation.
Today, upon his arrival in the premises of the Eastern Command HQ-Kolkata, he was presented with Guard of Honour and he interacted with all the officers of Eastern Command. He was given detailed briefing by the staff officers. Sh Ravi Gandhi exhorted upon all the Officers to discharge their duties with full dedication, uprightness and commitment with the full spirit of patriotism.
