BSF apprehended 02 Phensedyl smugglers red handed by conducting an operation on the Indo-Bangladesh Border

On 18/19 May, 2022 South Bengal Frontier apprehended 02 smugglers red handed with 623 bottles of Phensedyl in separate incidents from the area of ​​their responsibility. The total value of the seized Phensedyl is Rs 1,16,283. Smugglers were trying to take all these Phensedyl bottles from India to Bangladesh.

In the first incident, on May 18, 2022, the troops of Border Out Post Lodhia, 70 Battalion noticed 20-25 suspected smugglers carrying potlas near International Border (Tarabandi) at around 2035 hrs. On coming closer, the troops chalenged the smugglers to stop. On hearing the voice of the jawan, the smugglers started running towards the Indian village. The jawan chased them and apprehended a smuggler with 473 Phensidyl bottles. While the rest of the smugglers managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness and mango orchards. The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Ahidul Sheikh, S/o- Majibur Sheikh, Village- Mahadipur, Post- Mahadipur, Thana- Kaliachak, District Malda (West Bengal).

During interrogation, Ahidul Sheikh revealed that these Phensedyl was given to him by Haizul Sheikh, S/o– Mehndi Sheikh, Village + Post – Mahadipur, Police Station – Kaliachak, District Malda. All these bottles were to be handed over to Bangladeshi smuggler Mahidur, S/o-Kudda, Village-Sialmara, Thana-Shivganj, District- Chapainwabganj, Bangladesh after crossing the international Boundary.

In another incident, on 19 May 2022 at 0410 am, based on strong input, the troops of Border Out Post Kalyani, 158 Battalion laid an ambush in the given area on the basis of information. During the ambush, Border Security Force troops noticed the movement of 02 suspicious persons. Out of which one person was apprehended by the Border Security Force troops. 150 Phensedyl bottles were recovered from him. The smuggler has been identified as Bilal Hussain, S/oLate Mohammad Elias Hussain, Village – Daulatpur, Post Office – Balando, Thana Sarsa, District – Jessore, Bangladesh.

During preliminary interrogation, the man revealed that he works as a van driver in Bangladesh. He sometimes does smuggling work in the greed of earning more money. He revealed that last night he had taken these items from Chinmoy Biswas (Father- Subal Biswas, Village Kutipara, Post- Office Purana Bangaon, Thana-Banagaon, North 24 Parganas). After crossing the BSF duty line, these phensedyl bottles were to be handed over to Suman Mollah (Father- Siddiqui, village Daulatpur, Bangladesh).

Both the apprehended smugglers have been handed over to the concerned Police Station along with the seized items.

In a statement issued by the BSF, expressed happiness over the achievement of the jawans, in which they have foiled the smuggling attempts. This has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by their jawans on duty, the statement said. The statement clearly stated that nothing can hide from the eyes of their soldiers. BSF stated that he also has an excellent team to provide accurate information related to smuggling, which keeps a close watch on the criminal activities taking place in the border area.
