An Indian smuggler was apprehended with 19.900 kg of silver jewelery by the Border Security Force under South Bengal Frontier, thwarting the attempts of smugglers from the border area. The total cost of silver has been estimated to the amount of Rs 12,71,470/-. Smuggler was trying to cross from India to Bangladesh from the North 24 Parganas district area.
Silver was brought by hiding in the seat of the motorcycle, BSF caught
On 20 May 2022, at around 1603, the troops of Border Out Post Hakimpur, 112 Battalion, Sector Kolkata, while on duty, noticed a motorcyclist which was coming from Swaroopdha Market and going towards Hakimpur village. When he was crossing the duty point, the Border Security Force personnel stopped him to search. During the search, silver jewelery was seized from motorcycle seat. The apprehended person has been identified as Mostakim Sardar, 17 Years, S/o Pintu Sardar, Village Bithari, Post Office– Bithari, Police Station Swaroopnagar, District North 24 Parganas.
During interrogation, the person revealed that he is an Indian citizen and does petty smuggling for his survival. He revealed that he had taken these silver from Muzaffar Dafadar (Father– Shaukat Dafadar, village Darkandha, Post Office– Hakimpur, PS– Swaroopnagar, District– North 24 Parganas) in Bithari Bazar and after crossing the duty point of the Border Security Force, it was to be handed back to the same person for which it was to get ₹ 2000/ -.
The apprehended person has been handed over to the Customs Office, Tantulia, along with the seized material.
Narayan Chand, Commanding Officer, 112 Battalion expressed happiness over the achievement of the jawans in thwarting smuggling attempts. He stated that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by his jawans on duty. The officer clearly stated that nothing can hide from the eyes of his troops. He also stated that he also has an excellent team to provide accurate information related to smuggling, which keeps a close watch on the criminal activities taking place in the border area.
