BSF nabs 02 Indian smugglers with Phensedyl bottles at Indo-Bangladesh Border

Border Security Force troops under South Bengal Frontier apprehended two Indian smugglers red handed with 421 Phensedyl bottles from their border area. Smugglers were trying to smuggle these bottles from India to Bangladesh.

On 08 May, 2022 at around 2215 hrs, the troops of Border Out Post Khararmath, 158 Battalion, Sector Kolkata, in the line of duty noticed the movement of 06 suspicious persons on the border. BSF troops chased the smugglers and apprehended two persons and the rest of the smugglers fled from there. 02 packets were recovered from the smugglers, out of which 421 Phensedyl bottles were recovered. The smugglers have been identified as 1) Baburam Haldar, age 47 years, S/o- Mahendra Nath Haldar, village- Kharramath, PS- Gaighata, district- North 24 Parganas, 2) Mrinmay Biswas, 29 years, S/o- Kiran Biswas, village- Kharamath, PS– Gaighata, District – North 24 Parganas,

During preliminary interrogation, the apprehended persons stated that both of them are Indian citizens and work as laborers in the fields. They revealed that in the greed of earning more money, they have indulged in smuggling activities. They revealed that along with their other companions reached the banks of the Sasadaga river and took Phensedyl bottles. All these Phensedyl bottles were to be handed over to the smugglers of Peepli village after crossing the Border Out Post Khararmath. For which every person had to get ₹ 1000. But they were apprehended by the Border Security Force.

The apprehended persons have been handed over to the Police Station Gaighata along with the seized items.

Harendra Singh Tomar, Commanding Officer, 158 Battalion expressed happiness over the achievements of the jawans in thwarting smuggling attempts. He stated that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by his jawans on duty.
