Foiling a smuggling attempt, the BSF troops at Border Outpost M S Pur, 70 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier seized 62 mobile phones being smuggled from India to Bangladesh. The estimated value of the seized mobile phones in the Indian market is approximately Rs.10,02,000.
On February 18, 2023, at about 1615 hrs, based on reliable information from the Intelligence branch of BSF, the troops noticed suspicious movement of some smugglers near the International Boundary. The BSF jawans challenged them to stop, on which the smugglers got panicked and ran towards the village, throwing a bundle containing 17 mobile phones.
On being chased by BSF jawans, the smugglers hid in a house in Milik Sultanpur village. The house was surrounded by BSF jawans and all these incidents were informed to Gulapganj police station. After which the police and BSF planned a joint operation and searched the house, during which the smugglers fled taking advantage of the dense habitation. A bundle(potla) containing 45 mobile phones was recovered during search of the house.
The seized mobile phones have been handed over to the concerned agency for further legal action.
The Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier expressed happiness over the achievement of the BSF jawans and their commitment to stopping all kinds of trans-border crimes.He emphasized that the BSF is fully committed to stopping smuggling from its area of responsibility and is taking strict action against smugglers in collaboration with other agencies working in the area.
