“On February 23/24, 2023, jawans of Border Out Post Ramchandrapur, 107 BN, under South Bengal Frontier, apprehended a smuggler with 21 kgs of Ganja. In two different incidents, jawans of Border Out Post Mahakhola, 82 Battalion, and Border Out Post Mustafapur, 107 Battalion, also seized 600 bottles of Phensedyl and 385 bottles of Codeine syrup, respectively.”
The jawans launched a special operation based on concrete information in which a smuggler was caught on the border with 10 bundles of 21 kgs of Ganja, which he was trying to take to Bangladesh in “potalas.” The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Mithun Mandal (45) from District North 24 Parganas.
During questioning the smuggler confessed that he had committed the crime of smuggling for the first time and that he usually works as a truck helper. He further revealed that he had taken these items from Milton Dhavak of Behra village and was about to throw them over the fence.
In other incidents, jawans of Border Out Post Mahakhola 82 Battalion and Border Out Post Mustafapur,107 Battalion seized 600 bottles of Phensedyl and 385 bottles of codeine syrup, respectively. The total value of goods seized in all the incidents is Rs.1,90,561/-.
The apprehended smugglers and the seized goods were handed over to the concerned agencies for further legal action.
The Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier stated that smugglers adopt different tactics to carry out smuggling activities. BSF personnel are guarding the borders 24×7 and are committed to stopping all sorts of smuggling activities across the border. As a result, people involved in crimes like smuggling are continuously being caught.
