Two Congress MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and Basanta Das quits Congress on Wednesday .
The working president and three-time MLA from Karimganj Constituency Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, has announced his resignation from the party.
According to reports from sources Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha is likely to join with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha started his political career with the National Students’ Union of India and later he joined Congress later.
He was elected as MLA of Karimganj North (Vidhan Sabha constituency) for the first time in 2011 defeating the 4 time BJP MLA Mission Ranjan Das. He was once again re elected in 2016. In 2021, he won for the 3rd consecutive time.
