Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) organised a wreath laying ceremony at Chassad (Kamjong district, Manipur) for its braveheart Subedar Major Khadka Bahadur Limbu, AC, MC who gave supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation while fighting with insurgents at Road Track Junction near Village Khyakjong of Tuensang district of Nagaland on 26 April 1961.
The ceremony commenced with the wreath laying by the Commandant of the unit followed by a motivational speech addressing all ranks and narrating the inspiring story of the braveheart.
A total of 05 Officers, 10 Junior Commissioned Officers and 102 Other Ranks of the Battalion paid tribute by laying wreaths and presenting Guard of Honour.
ASSAM RIFLES ORGANISES SPORTS EVENTS ACROSS MANIPUR
Assam Rifles organised an exhilarating volleyball match between the team of Haolenphai village, Tengnoupal District and troops of Assam Rifles on 25 April 2024. Both team displayed exceptional skill and team work throughout the match, showcasing the universal language of sports as they communicated on the court with precision and finesse. A tea and refreshment party was also organised with all players and village authority after the match. Village elders appreciated Assam Rifles efforts to bring normalcy and joy during such challenging times of internal security.
Assam Rifles also organised a friendly volleyball match with the youths of Iron Gym Club, Oinam Village, Bishnupur on 23 April 2024 as part of endeavor to encourage sports and games in the villages of the district. The event witnessed an overwhelming response from the village. Refreshments were also organised for the players and villagers after the event.
In a similar vein a friendly Volleyball Match was organised at Hiangtam Khunou, Churachandpur on 23 April 2024 featuring the village youth and the Assam Rifles personnel to encourage physical fitness, develop sportsman spirit and to provide a platform to the budding talent in sports to display their potential. It was a well contested match played with sportsmanship and both the teams gave a tough fight to each other.
Assam Rifles recognizes the importance of sports as a powerful tool for promoting physical well-being and reinforcing the social fabric of the region. Sports events serve as an ideal platform to engage with the local community and understand their aspirations while also showcasing the shared values and commitment to peace and development.
ASSAM RIFLES PAYS TRIBUTE TO ITS BRAVEHEART
Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) conducted a Wreath Laying Ceremony for Rifleman Gopal Singh Bhandari who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation on 26 April 1997 during fire fight with undergrounds (UGs) at Chessore (Nagaland). The braveheart inspite of sustaining Gun Shot Wounds continued to engage the UGs. However, he later succumbed to injuries, laying down his life as supreme sacrifice for the Nation.
The Battalion and Assam Rifles salute the supreme sacrifice of Rifleman Gopal Singh Bhandari and paid respect to the martyr by laying the wreath & Guard of Honour.
