Today the Delhi High Court dismissed restrictions on airing Covid-19 news regarding banning says, “Informing the public about the numbers of deaths due to COVID-19 is not negative news.”
The Division Bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice Jasmeet Singh, while calling the plea a publicity interest litigation, said, “We see no reason to entertain the petition.”
The PIL was preferred by advocate Lalit Valecha (petitioner) who, in the backdrop of the second wave of COVID-19, claimed that “negative images/visuals/stories over TV could be dangerous to the public” and it causes “negativity, sense of insecurity towards life, alarm, injury, harm, suffering, damage“.
