AT RESIDENCE OF 1971 WAR VETERANS
The Golden Jubilee celebrations of 1971 war joyously continued in the city of Kolkata with the reception of ‘SWARNIM VIJAY VARSH’ Victory Flame at residences of esteemed war veterans of the historic 1971 Indo-Pak war on 27 Oct 2021. The Victory flame was received with full military honours by Wg Cdr Somir Choudhuri, VSM (Retd) and Capt Anil Bhalla (Retd) at their residences at Baliganj, Kolkata. Both the veterans actively participated in 1971 war. Capt Anil Bhalla, an 11 Gorkha Rifles officer is a battle casualty of war where he lost his left leg due to mine blast during an attack on point 13620 in Kargil sector on 07 Dec 1971. The event included screening of a short movie on 1971 war followed by the emcee briefing the audience on the significant events of the war and the valiant efforts and sacrifices made by the Indian Armed Forces towards this historic victory. Our gallant veterans were filled with pride and shared nostalgic experiences of war with the audience.
A synchronised pipe band performance by 4/9 Gorkha Rifles won the hearts of one and all in the audience. The celebrations were a private affair with family members, friends and celebrities from city of joy to include the famous Bollywood and Tollywood actress Raima Sen.
The event culminated with departure of the Victory Flame to continue it’s journey to spread awareness amongst people regarding the historic victory of 1971 war.
