BSF troops under the South Bengal Frontier foiled a smuggling attempt and seized 9.880 kg of silver ornaments at the International Border. The estimated value of the seized silver ornaments is Rs 5,84,560/-. The smuggler was attempting to smuggle these silver ornaments from India to Bangladesh.
On April 2, 2023, at approximately 4:30 pm, troops of Border Out Post Hakimpur, 112 Battalion, conducted a special search operation on Hakimpur Check Post based on reliable information. During the operation, jawans noticed a suspicious white Maruti Suzuki car coming from Swarupada village and heading towards Hakimpur village. Upon intercepting the car, the driver appeared nervous and was unable to provide a suitable response. The jawans then conducted a thorough search of the car, and recovered 9 packets of silver ornaments weighing 9.880 kg wrapped in brown plastic tape hidden in a cavity in the car dashboard. The car driver, identified as Mahid Sardar from the North 24 Parganas district, was immediately apprehended along with the car and the silver ornaments.
The apprehended smuggler and seized goods were handed over to the Custom Office Tentulia for further legal action.
Expressing satisfaction over the success of the operation, the spokesperson of the South Bengal Frontier stated that their jawans will not allow smuggling or any other kind of crime to take place on the border under any circumstances and will not spare the persons involved in it. To deter smuggling on the border, the Border Security Force keeps a vigilant watch and adopts various operational measures. He also mentioned that his team provides information related to smuggling and closely monitors criminal activities in the border area.
