CAB Women’s Club Cricket League begins in style

The much-awaited inaugural CAB Women’s Club Cricket League One-Day tournament, hosted by the Cricket Association of Bengal, began in a rousing fashion at the Town Club ground on Wednesday.

CAB President Snehasish Ganguly, Vice president Amalendu Biswas, Hony Joint Secretary Debrabrata Das and CAB Hony Treasure Prabir Chakraborty were present to greet the players as the tournament began after a glittering ceremony.

“Firstly I would like to thank all those who were involved in the launch of the tournament. I wish all the teams the very best for the tournament. I hope all the players will give their best and help their team come out victorious. I also hope this tournament will help bring forward a pool of talent for the women’s cricket in Bengal,” CAB President Mr Ganguly said.

Along with the CAB office bearers, Tournament Committee Chairman Nitish Ranjan Dutta, Medical Committee Chairman Pradip Kr Dey, Tour, Fixture and Technical Committee Chairman Suvankar Ghosh Dastidar, Stadium Committee Chairman Santanu Mitra, Observer and Scorers Committee Chairman Srimanta Kumar Mallick and other CAB Members were also present for the ocassion.

Before the toss of the coin between Rajasthan Club and Aryan Club, CAB President Mr Ganguly, other office bearers and committee members greeted all the captains of the 10 participating teams and wished them the best for the tournament.

The opening day will see an enthralling contest with four matches lined-up.

Besides Rajasthan Club taking on Aryan, Mohun Bagan Club will face Mohammedan Sporting Club at the YMCA Ground, Bhawanipore Club will meet Wari Athletic Club at Rangers Ground and Kalighat Club will face Barisha Sporting Club at Bangabasi Ground.

The tournament, which has been added to CAB’s cricket calendar from the current year itself, will witness women’s cricket in Bengal scale new heights, bring forward a pool of talents and above all see new stars born in the next couple of weeks.

The meet, which will be played in a league-cum-knockout format, will have a star marquee, Bengal senior, Bengal Under-23, Under-19, and Under-15 player in each team to provide proper balance to each side.

Town Club, Aryan Club, Mohun Bagan, Mohammedan Sporting Club and Rajasthan Club are clubbed in Group A while East Bengal, Wari Athletic Club, Kalighat Club, Barisha Sporting Club and Bhawanipore Club are in Group B.
